What’s Ferulic Acid?

Ferulic Acid, also known as 4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic Acid, is a derivative of cinnamic Acid .Ferulic acid can scavenging free radicals, promote the production of free radical scavenging enzymes, increase the activities of glutathione transferase and quinone reductase, and inhibit the activity of tyrosinase to regulate human physiological functions.

What’s the Function and Application of Ferulic Acid?

1. Ferulic acid can inhibit or reduce the proliferation activity of melanocytes. The number of melanocytes decreased from 117±23/mm2 to 39±7/ mm2 with 0.1-0.5% ferulic acid solution.

2. Ferulic acid can also inhibit the activity of tyrosinase. When the concentration of ferulic acid was 5mmol/L, the inhibition rate of tyrosinase activity was as high as 86%.Even if the concentration of ferulic acid solution is only 0.5mmol/L, the inhibition rate of tyranase activity can reach about 35%.

3. Ferulic acid also has the scavenging oxygen free radicals and good antioxidant effect, ferulic acid can effectively absorb ultraviolet radiation in the wavelength range of 290 ~ 330nm, and prevent or reduce the damage of ultraviolet radiation in this wavelength to the skin.
